Bishop Richard Ellena
Waikanae only. Music runs through Richard’s blood – whether it’s singing, playing or composing Richard will do it. From teaching to vicaring to bishoping Richard is one gifted guy. As Anglican Bishop of the Nelson diocese Richard would love to unpack his quote that he “holds high the flag of evangelical orthodoxy”. Ask him! You’ll find him in Adult Zone or swanning around the dining room with wife Hilary.
Mike Norris
Matamata only. Mike leads St Paul’s, inner city Auckland and writes this “rather to my surprise I came to faith in my early twenties whilst working as a corporate lawyer. I ended up helping out at St Mary’s in London and from there, came out to Auckland in 2004. I love New Zealand: great people, great beaches, great food, great coffee, great country! I love surfing and ocean swimming (both done embarrassingly badly).”
Bex Norris
Matamata only. Bex is married to Mike who leads St Paul’s, an anglican church in inner city auckland and writes this “In my head I am an international woman of mystery; born in Portugal and having lived in Holland, France, Brazil, England and NZ. But sadly, I am just not that mysterious. after a few fun years as an international woman, studying languages and teaching, I packed up and found myself in Auckland and have loved it ever since. I spend my time running around with my two exuberant boys and helping lead St Paul’s. I’m involved in getting new initiatives going, as well as training and encouraging leaders. I am actually in charge. (In my head…)”
Justin Duckworth

Kaiapoi only. Justin’s not your average vicar. He hails from Waikanae, has dreadlocks, usually wears shorts and bare feet, is involved in Urban Vision, has a life focus on serving the poor and lives in community. He’s been working in grassroots youth and community work for nearly 20 years and in that time has pioneered loads of different projects. The driving passion for Justin is to see young people equipped and encouraged to work together for a better world. He, with wife Jenny, has just published Against the Tide, Towards the Kingdom.
Matti Koopman
Matamata only. Born and raised in London, Matti says God unexpectedly snuck up on him and introduced himself one summer at a Christian camp. Since then Matti has been passionate about getting the good news of the Kingdom of God out there and back into the church. Matti is married to Kiwi born Jodie and they have three children, one crazy dog and two cats. Since 2008, after a career in travel marketing, he has pastored at Connect Baptist Church in South Auckland.
Lydia Read
Waikanae and Kaiapoi. Lydia heads the leadership team of New Wine NZ. Trained as an accountant she left work in the city when she and husband Shane moved to a career in farming. Today she is the financial manager for their farming and commercial business, is studying towards her Bachelor of Theology and works full time for New Wine. Lydia is energised by God’s church, personal faith and skiing of any sort (well – this year anyway).
Steve and Amy Silcock
Kaiapoi only. Steve and Amy have a wealth of insight in ministry and are passionate about seeing people walk in victory in every area of life. This year they have begun Pastoring Annesbrook Christchurch, and are excited about what the Future holds for the people of Christchurch.
Sam Harvey
Waikanae only. He’s a local lad done good. With wife Jen he pastors Grace Vineyard’s Beach Campus in Christchurch, following his move there 2 years ago. Sam has been involved in New Wine, Soul Survivor, Blueprint, Alpha and with that pedigree what else would he do in his spare time but share his passion of justice, the pursuit of Jesus and the scandal of grace with anyone who will listen, oh, between helping out with the Christchurch earthquake recovery and playing with their brand new baby, ddddddddddddddddddEli.
But wait …
There’s more, there always is. Each year over 60 speakers speak at the New Wine events and as soon as we know who they are you’ll be the first to know.
